Importance of geohazard maps recognized

IMG_0063The importance of geohazard maps is recognized by local government units and government agencies, said MGB-6 Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan. It is worth noting that we have been busily presenting geohazards to a wide number of audiences since the start of the year, RD Juguan said. The conferences organized by other government agencies such as the Office of the Civil Defense, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has allowed us to reach more number of planners and policy-makers of the local government to learn and appreciate the information that assessment results and geohazard maps can give.Academic institutions have always been proactive in organizing fora that would enable government agencies like MGB to give crucial information pertaining to the environment and current challenges we are facing.

MGB-6 was invited by the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City to present geohazards during a Disaster Risk Reduction Conference in line with their Earth Day celebration.
We are overwhelmed with invitations but we always see these fora as an opportunity to be seized in spreading the information that every one can use, if only to know that we have done something to prevent any disasters, RD Juguan concluded.
