MGB-6: Mining operations is done in stages starting at exploration

Rene de la Cruz, Chief of the Mining Environment and Safety Division (MESD) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 6 (MGB-6) explained the different stages of mining operations starting with exploration during the 38th Regional Annual Convention of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philipines, Inc. (GEP, Inc.), Western Visayas Chapter.
More than 70 geodetic engineers of Region 6 attended the convention on March 22-23, 2012.
GEP, Inc.-WV requested MGB-6 to present the different stages of a mining operation, and its impacts to people and environment in each stage.
Engr. de la Cruz presented the policy framework of the government that ensures mining is done in a responsible manner that answers for environmental and social costs. He explained in detail the provisions of the Mining Act of 1995 and its implementing regulations that spell our the requirements and responsibilities of a mining project in each stage.
